INTERIOR DESIGN TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM PART-TIME TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES

George Brown College is seeking non-fulltime/contract faculty for the 2022-2023 academic year to teach in our INTERIOR DESIGN program.

Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates must have a degree in interior design and preferably should be an ARIDO member.
  • Some recent teaching or mentoring experience at the post-secondary level and, in a community college, is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is also essential. The program curriculum emphasizes an applied learning approach.

Teaching Positions

George Brown College is seeking non-fulltime/contract faculty for the 2022-2023 academic year to teach in our INTERIOR DESIGN program. The following positions are available:

  1. Revit instructor (3-6 hrs/week): Teaching 2nd and 3rd year students how to use digital drawing tools for the creation of their studio projects.
  2. Residential design studio instructor (3 hrs/week). Helping guide 2nd year students with their residential design project.
  3. Building Code (part 3): Teaching 2nd year students about the aspects of part 3 of the building code that most commonly affect interior design projects.
  4. Working Drawings: Teaching 2nd and 3rd year students how to create a construction drawing set.

Qualifications:

Job Description:

  • Take notes of class lectures and discussion, demonstrations (labs) videos or films shown in class, assignments, and tests due dates. All notes must be typed
  • Edit notes after class and email them to student and coordinator within 24 hours
  • During in-class assignments act as reader and scribe by reading to the student the instruction and writing the answers provided by the student

Learning Support

  • Provide clarification on information and/or instructions provided by faculty
  • Provide feedback and redirect to assigned tasks
  • Help student to develop study strategies, organizational strategies and time management

Mobility Assistance

  • Provide mobility assistance by removing students backpack or coat, take out books or equipment from their bag.
  • Assist student to re-configure their work-station to meet this needs

Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Manager, Community Engagement the incumbent will provide outreach, transition, and retention advising and support services for at-risk populations (first generation, street-involved youth, early-school leavers, unemployed / underemployed mature learners, in high schools and the community to increase their comfort level with pursuing post-secondary education. The incumbent will support the Ontario Post-Secondary Access & Inclusion and School Within A College (SWAC) programs.

The position will be based in the Community Partnerships Office however, the position will require some local travel outside the College communities and may require some work in the evenings and weekends. The incumbent will be required to communicate with the internal college community and external community stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising and guidance to non-traditional learners seeking access to post-secondary education, including educational options, financial assistance, navigation of post-secondary systems such as OCAS, OSAP, OUAC, registration, etc.
  • Facilitating transition to post-secondary education through ongoing orientation supports.
  • Delivering activities & events to engage populations experiencing multiple barriers to post-secondary access.
  • Developing and facilitating Post-Secondary Education (PSE) workshops in community related to accessing and paying for post-secondary.
  • Preparing communication materials such as flyers and presentations.
  • Tracking Student Data, ensuring database is accurate and current by collecting, tracking, and inputting student demographic and registration data.
  • Assisting in the completion of appropriate reporting requirements as per funder guidelines.

  • Supporting the activities delivered in the School to College to Work Initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Three-year College diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Social Sciences, Community Services, Human Services or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ experience working with youth in an advising/counseling capacity.

Key Duties:

Service Provision Coordination

  • Support the day-to-day operations for Accessible Learning Services that support the provision of notetaking and tutoring accommodations.
  • Schedule notetakers and tutors for students registered with Accessible Learning Services.
  • Triage student concerns/questions, and make decisions following the policy and procedures of the department.

  • Maintain frequent communication with service providers and service receivers.
  • Monitor service delivery and submission of notes in a confidential and timely fashion.

Recruitment and Hiring

  • Assist the Student Services Coordinator in the recruiting process by attending job fairs, orientations, and other on-campus events to promote tutor, note-taker, and class assistant jobs.
  • Contact professors to assist in finding class notetakers within their classes and qualified peer tutors.
  • Keep track of applications and follow up with potential applications regarding missing documentation.
  • Coordinate the logistics for tutors and note-taker interviews as requested by the Student Services Coordinator.
  • Communicate to applicants the results of the interview and the next steps in the hiring process

Data Collection

  • Collect and track statistical data using multiple systems.
  • Collate data and prepare monthly and yearly statistical reports.

Payroll

  • Process Offer Letters for service providers using Cornerstone and ensure they accept the Offer Letter and submit documentation to Payroll Department
  • Train students on how to fill out the various types of timesheets depending on the budget their salary is allocated.
  • Collect and verify bi-weekly timesheet to ensure hours reported by student workers matched hours worked and report any discrepancies to the Student Services Coordinator
  • Process honorariums for notetakers at the end of the semester
  • Verify invoices submitted by Habitat Learn (Note-Taking Express)

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Business Administration or Human Resources
  • Minimum 2-year customer services-related experience
  • Good time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and high volume during peak periods.
  • Effective computer skills focused on Microsoft Office products. Advanced level of Excel
  • Experience working with databases such as Banner, Clockwork or Cornerstone is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) customer service standards
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities is an asset.

Position Summary:

The Tutoring and Learning Centre (TLC) provides a variety of academic learning supports to all George Brown Students. We’re looking for a TLC Advisor, Accounting to lead our team of Peer Tutors and Peer Leaders to provide support to GBC students in accounting courses.

NOTE:
In this role, the Advisor supports the Peer Tutors and Leaders (students in accounting courses) with sound pedagogy to create inclusive learning opportunities for students. The Advisor isnotrequired to have a background in accounting (although it’s an asset) and the incumbent doesnotprovide direct accounting support to students.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the provision of accounting learning support and contributes to the provision of mathematics and other general learning supports for GBC students – online and in-person.
  • Leads development and delivery - via a team of Peer Tutors and Peer Leaders -of accounting tutoring, course-embedded tutorials for the foundational accounting course, peer learning groups, and contributes to development of math/numeracy/academic learning needs ranging from general skill development to skill remediation of at-risk students.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, assigns responsibilities, mentors, and evaluates all student employees delivering accounting support services and contribute to same for the general group of TLC peer tutors and peer leader staff.
  • Liaises with faculty and staff, primarily in the Centre for Business to develop, create, facilitate, and schedule the provision of academic support for accounting.
  • Develops and facilitates programming in alignment with the Tutoring and Learning Centre (TLC) mandate, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), hybrid learning, and best practices in the field.
  • Develops or oversees development and/or curation of learning resources related to accounting and will contribute to same related to math and general learning support.
  • Participates in and contribute to TLC goals and operations and will contribute to initiatives to foster continuous improvement of the TLC programming and services.
  • Assess needs and opportunities, plan service delivery and evaluate service effectiveness of accounting learning supports.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree plus professional certification from a recognized post secondary institution in Education, Accounting, Business, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Post-bachelor level coursework related to accounting, mathematics and/or learning skills education at a postsecondary education institution.
  • Five years of cumulative experience tutoring as well as providing learning strategy support in formal contexts of an adult education environment.
  • one year of experience in training, mentorship, and supervision or team leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LMS and other enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of GBC policies and processes is preferred.
  • Commitment to Anti-Racism, anti-oppression, diversity and inclusion, and the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Understanding of and ability to develop and deliver academic supports for learners with diverse needs and goals.
