Joe Stapleton has been with George Brown College for more than 11 years and is the Manager of Student Life. His portfolio includes new student orientation and transition programs, BSSN (Black Student Success Network), student leadership, Student Life events, Welcome Desks and the locker rental program, our residence- The George, and is the college liaison to the Student Association.
Joe earned a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Ryerson University followed by a Master of Arts in Education Degree from Central Michigan University. Recognized for his leadership strengths, he also earned a certificate from the Emerging Leaders Program from the Schulich School of Business.
Joe has spent his professional life striving to strengthen communities and the people within. Having worked in various sectors including social-recreation, child protection, youth detention, human trafficking and prostitution, homeless, and education, he believes in people and is honoured to be in a position to assist and mobilize change and success.

Get to know Peter
Peter joined the George Brown community in 2008 after having worked for many years in the hospitality industry in Canada, and abroad. Having studied in marketing and administration, fine arts, graphic design, and adult education, he adapted that learning and skillset to the college environment which has helped build a vigorous orientation and transition program for GBC students.
In his role as the Coordinator ofOrientation & Transition programs at GBC, he continually looks to develop meaningful and relevant programming to enhance engagement and success of all student groups, not just those that are new to the college. His favourite part of the role is working alongside students, staff and faculty to build programming that supports students from the day they accept their offer to their graduation. Outside of the college, he is a self-professed plant dad, a strong creative, traveller and lifelong learner.

Get to know Davor
A recent addition to the Student Life team, Davor has a passion for connecting with students, creating engaging environments and facilitating opportunities for volunteering and community engagement. An avid volunteer himself, he is a fixture of the Toronto International Film Festival volunteer program and encourages others to give back with their time and skills and highlights the learning that takes place outside of the classroom.

In his role, Davor is responsible for the college’s volunteer program, theStudent Leadership Academy, as well as coordinating engagement activities that align with the Human Skills Framework, a framework that allows students to build their soft skills while aligning their engagement with learning opportunities. The Student Life team provides the opportunity for him to work closely with students, staff and faculty to further develop this integral part of the college experience.

Get to know Matt
Matt joins George Brown College family with a Double Bilingual Honors in International Studies and History and a Certificate in Law and Social Thought from York University. Professionally Matt brings 8 years of experience in Student Affairs at York University and Queen's University. During their time at both universities, Matt was heavily involved in creating, supporting, and assessing programs that advanced student success. At York, Matt worked as a Residence Life Coordinator leading community development with a team of student leaders. At Queen's, Matt worked as the Student Development Coordinator where they created learning experiences for students that would support their skill and leadership development.
As Coordinator Co-Curricular Experiential Learning and Leadership Development, Matt will focus on advancing work in three key areas: the Co-Curricular Record, Leadership programming, and Student staff professional development. Passionate about student success and learning Matt seeks any opportunity to connect with the community to learn about opportunities and where they can help to make an enriching student experience.
Matt, a keen learner themself, relishes the opportunity to learn about others and their experiences. Whether through books, documentaries or conversations, Matt is always excited to learn and experience life stories.

Get to know Marc
Marc recently become the General Manager of the George Brown College Residence. In his role Marc oversees all aspects of residence services and operations. The residence team works to create a safe, inclusive and memorable student experience at the George. Marc’s favourite part of his role is working with student leaders and seeing them grow and mature into strong role models within their communities.
Marc has worked for 18 years in residence life, always striving to make the residence experience a safe and memorable transition for students on their journey in life. On his spare time you can find Marc enjoying a good science fiction book or cheering for his favourite Toronto sports team.

Get to know Alex
Alex has been working within Residence Life since 2018 when she was completing her University degree in Justice Studies and is in the process of completing her Master's in Education at York University. She started as a Residence Assistant at her post-secondary institution and facilitated so many amazing programs such as a Residence wide Halloween Haunted House and sexual violence education programming. During her post-secondary degree, Alex was also a Consent Peer Educator which is a role that involved planning and curating events surrounding topics of sexual violence and consent education for students, staff, and faculty. Alex presented many Keynotes in this position as well as planned an entire event at her institution for the Take Back the Night Campaign.
Alex is now using her experiences in her previous roles and her passion for student life to allow every student at the George Residence to experience an eventful student living life. Her goal is to create a sexual violence and consent education program at The George residence and to eliminate the stigma of consent within student residences. Alex is a very driven and enthusiastic individual who will strive to create a safe living and learning community for students at their home away from home!

Abisola Asha
Black Student Success Network Coordinator, Black Student Support Specialist (She/Her)

Get to know Abisola
Abisola Asha is a Black student support specialist and the coordinator of the Black student success Network. She received her Bachelors and Master of Social Work degree at Toronto Metropolitan university. Abisola creates and develops programs for Black Students within the college that support them throughout their academic journey. Her goal is to foster an environment for her students to thrive and excel in defining what success means to them.
Abisola has extensive experience working with student and community populations with a lens toward trauma informed practice. She is a community activist, that advocates against Anti Black racism within the education system. Abisola is passionate about community development, therapeutic mental health practices, and travelling!

Deliah Jackson

Get to know Deliah
Deliah has been a member of the George Brown College community for the last 20 years, making her knowledgeable in everything George Brown. Along with the ability to view post-secondary education with many lenses. As a result, Deliah has a well-developed sense of service, demonstrated through her capacity to connect with students and her passion for helping students discover their pathways to success.
As the Black Student Success Advisor with theBlack Student Success Network, Deliah believes student learning comes first, which is why her compassion, focus on student well-being, and her efforts to advocate for their equity and social justice is essential. Her approach be credited to the lessons learned from her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and certificate in Life Skills Coaching. Deliah’s “glass half full” mentality and using an Anti-racism lens provides Black students with a safe space to maintain a positive attitude, foster strong connections, and be motivated as they do the work to achieve their academic and career goals.
