Academic Upgrading for Deaf & Hard‑of‑Hearing Adults Online – Deaf Learn Now

The first online literacy program in the world for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults.

TheDeaf Learn Nowprogram is also open to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults, and reaches students from diverse backgrounds from across Ontario, including rural and remote communities. It is run by George Brown College and funded by Employment Ontario. Our students go on to successful college programs, apprenticeships, employment and to have greater independence.

What you can expect:

  • This program offers Academic & Career Entrance courses (ACE Communications and ACE Business Math).
  • You’ll gain practical skills relating to the job market, such as resume and interview skills.
  • You’ll gain useful credentials, such as WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and the Food Handler's Certificate.

Courses are designed to meet the specific needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students and use lots of visuals. Many of the staff are Deaf and all can communicate through ASL (American Sign Language) and English.

Who can apply

If you are age 19 or older and live in Ontario, you can apply.

Cost

Deaf Learn Now is tuition-free for Ontario residents age 19 or older. It is funded by Employment Ontario.

Program length

Students can start the program at any time. This program has a variety of courses for you to take to improve your literacy or work readiness. Short courses can be completed in several weeks and ACE (Academic & Career Entrance) credit courses may take several months to complete.
